Home sweet home.

At last we have moved in. We are both exhausted but loving it. Still heaps to do.

Our floorboards are finished!

Just got home to our finished floor. I'm loving the matt finish for this build.

Ensuite

After changing my mind about what to choose for bathroom tiles I'm very happy with the outcome. White tiles on walls, grey floor and feature wall. Loving the simplicity of it all.

Cabinetry

Some of our cabinets were installed on Friday. I'm absolutely thrilled with it so far.
I particularly like the handless set of draws in our upstairs retreat.
I'm so pleased the cabinet maker talked me into having gloss classic white.
Just what the box house needed.

Our staircase

Our staircase was installed today. I love how it is so unobtrusive. So very different to anything I've had before. I can now go upstairs and have a good look around.

Hard wood flooring

They started laying the yellow stringybark flooring today. It's a bit more rustic than any floor we have had before but I think it suits "The box house". It's beginning to look like a home.

Taking shape

We have been concentrating on finishing the inside but still a a bit to do on the outside.
We have to decide on a colour for our front door. The blue board will be painted with sticks of wood on it.

Two helpers

Sophie and Sam help Grando at the block today.

Saturday, July 30, 2011

At long last, this week we might see some action. The builder will be back after 6 weeks off with pneumonia. The windows are arriving Friday. Weather wise it looks like being about 18degrees and mainly fine. Everything is crossed for some progress being made!

I have bad taste so please tell me which lights would suit my bed/sitting room upstairs.
I am keen to not have a sterile room and want it to be a romantic retreat.
I have purchased a Laura Ashley white doona cover with a tiny amount of silver on it.
Also a Laura Ashley grey velvet type throw. Carpet will be charcoal. Walls white.

Bricking begins

We are not having much brick work mainly render.
I am so in love with these bricks I'm going to see if we can include more.

Profiles

At little bit of progress at the block.
The house has been set out. If they don't get a move on it will be wet and we won't get the garage slab down.

A bit of excitement

There is never a dull moment at the rental.
An old lady in the unit next door backed into my bedroom window. Just as well I wasn't haven't a sleep in!

Colour selections

At last I think I am getting somewhere with my colour selections. The large tile is for the bathrooms and the small piece of caesarstone is ginger for benchtops. I have taken the photo with the samples sitting on the concrete verandah at the rental.

The rough drawings

The architect arrived today, feeling very nervous. She has given us a very modern, low maintenance home and didn't know how we would feel about it. She shouldn't have worried.

We love it. It's just perfect for us and our tribe of grandchildren. I can't get the smile off my face!
